shake hand : လက္ဆြဲႏႈတ္ဆက္သည္။

-       When people meet for the first time, they usually shake hands.

လူေတြ ပထမဆံုး အႀကိမ္ေတြ႔တဲ့အခါ လက္ဆြဲႏႈတ္ဆက္ ေလ့ရွိၾကတယ္။

-       The student warmly shook hands with his professor.

ေက်ာင္းသားက သူရဲ႕ ပါေမာကၡေဟာင္း ကို ေႏြးေႏြးေထြးေထြး လက္ဆြဲႏႈတ္ဆက္ခဲ့တယ္။

-       What do you think of that movie which you saw last night?

မေန႔ညက မင္းၾကည့္ခဲ့တဲ့ ႐ုပ္ရွင္ကို ဘယ္လို သေဘာရလဲ

-       I don’t think much of him as a good baseball player.

သူ႔ကိုေတာ့ ေဘ့စ္ေဘာ ကစားသမားေကာင္း တစ္ေယာက္လို႔ သိပ္ေတာ့ သေဘာမရဘူး (မထင္ဘူး)။

to get back : ျပန္လာသည္။

-       Mr. Smith got back from Chicago last night.

မေန႔ညက မစၥတာ စမစ္ ခ်ီ(စ္)ကာဂို က ျပန္လာၿပီ။

-       When do you expect to get back from your trip?

မင္း ခရီးက ဘယ္ေတာ့ေလာက္ ျပန္လာႏိုင္မယ္လို႔ ေမွ်ာ္လင့္ထားလဲ

to catch cold : အေအးမိသည္။

-       If you go out in this rain, you will surely catch cold.

မင္း မိုးရြာထဲ အျပင္ထြက္ရင္ေတာ့ အေအးမိမွာ ေသခ်ာတယ္။

-       How did she ever catch cold in such warm weather?

ဒီလို ေႏြးေထြးတဲ့ ရာသီဥတုမွာ ဘာေၾကာင့္ သူက အၿမဲပဲ အေအးမိ ေနတာလဲ

to make up one’s mind : ဆံုးျဖတ္ခ်က္ခ်သည္။

-       William has made up his mind not to go to college this year.

ဒီႏွစ္ ေကာလိပ္ မတက္ေတာ့ဘူးလို႔ ဝီလီယမ္ က ဆံုးျဖတ္ခ်က္ခ် ခဲ့တယ္။

-       Have you made up your mind yet as to where you are going to spend your vacation?

မင္းရဲ႕ အားလပ္ရက္ကို ဘယ္ကိုသြားၿပီး ကုန္ဆုံးမယ္လို႔ မင္း ဆံုးျဖတ္ခ်က္ ခ်ၿပီးၿပီလား

to change one’s mind : ဆံုးျဖတ္ခ်က္ကို ေျပာင္းလဲ ျပင္ဆင္သည္။

-       We have changed our minds and are going to Pyin Oo Lwin instead of to Mandalay on our vacation.

အားလပ္ရက္မွာ မႏၱေလးကို သြားမဲ့အစား ျပင္ဦးလြင္ကို သြားမယ္လို႔ ကၽြန္ေတာ္တို႔ ဆံုးျဖတ္ခ်က္ ေျပာင္းလိုက္တယ္။

-       John has changed his mind at least three times in this matter.

ဒီကိစၥမွာ ဂၽြန္က အနည္းဆံုး (၃) ႀကိမ္ေလာက္ ဆံုးျဖတ္ခ်က္ကို ေျပာင္းခဲ့တယ္။

for the time being : လက္ရွိ အခ်ိန္အထိ၊ ခုအခ်ိန္ထိ

-       For the time being Helen is working in export department.

ခုအခ်ိန္ထိ ေတာ့ ဟယ္လင္က ျပည္ပပို႔ကုန္ ဌာနမွာ အလုပ္လုပ္တယ္။

-       We are living in a hotel for the time being, but later we will try to find a small apartment.

လက္ရွိအခ်ိန္အထိ ကၽြန္ေတာ္တို႔ ေဟာ္တယ္မွာ ေနၾကတယ္၊ ဒါေပမဲ့ ေနာက္ပိုင္းမွာ တိုက္ခန္းေလး တစ္ခန္းေလာက္ ႀကိဳးစားရွာရဦးမယ္။

to get over : ျပန္လည္ ေကာင္းမြန္/သက္သာ သည္။

-       It took me more than a month to get over my cold.

ကၽြန္ေတာ္ အေအးမိတာက သက္သာလာတာ တစ္လေက်ာ္ေလာက္ ၾကာတယ္။

-       I don’t think he will ever get over the loss of his wife.

-       I think he will never get over the loss of his wife.

သူ႔မိန္မ ဆံုးသြားတဲ့အတြက္ သူဘယ္ေတာ့မွ ျပန္သက္သာမယ္လို႔ ကၽြန္ေတာ္ မထင္ဘူး။

to call off : ဖ်က္သိမ္းသည္။

-       The flight was call off on the account of bad weather.

ရာသီဥတု ဆိုးရြားတဲ့အတြက္ ေလယာဥ္ခရီးစဥ္ကို ဖ်က္သိမ္းလိုက္တယ္။

-       The doctor had to call off his appointments for the day and rush to the hospital.

ဆရာဝန္က ဒီေန႔အတြက္ ခ်ိန္းထားတာကို ဖ်က္ၿပီးေတာ့ ေဆး႐ံုကို အျမန္သြားခဲ့တယ္။

for good : အၿမဲတမ္း၊ အၿပီးအပိုင္

-       My friend has gone to Singapore for good.

ကၽြန္ေတာ့္ သူငယ္ခ်င္းက စကၤာပူကို အၿပီး ထြက္သြားၿပီ။

-       John has gone back to California for good.

ကယ္လီဖိုးနီးယားက ဂၽြန္ အၿပီးျပန္လာၿပီ။

to put off : ေရႊ႕ဆိုင္းသည္။

-       Many students put off their assignments until the last minute.

ေက်ာင္းသားေတြဟာ ေနာက္ဆံုးရတဲ့ အခ်ိန္အထိ အိမ္စာေတြကို ေရႊ႕ၾကတယ္။

-       Let’s put the party off until next weekends, okay?

ပါတီပြဲကို ေနာက္တစ္ပတ္ စေန၊တနဂၤေႏြ အထိ ေရႊ႕ရေအာင္၊ အဆင္ေျပတယ္ မဟုတ္လား

in a hurry : အလ်င္သလို

-       John is in a hurry to catch the bus.

ဘစ္ကား မီဖို႔အတြက္ ဂၽြန္က အလ်င္သလို ျဖစ္ေနတယ္။

-       She is the kind of person who always seems to be in a hurry.

သူက အၿမဲတမ္း အလ်င္လို ေနတဲ့ပံုစံ ျဖစ္ေနသူ တစ္ေယာက္ပဲ။
